Description

The EHESS Center for East Asian Linguistics Library (CRLAO) is undoubtedly the largest and most swell-stocked library in its field in France with some 20,500 volumes, of which 70% are in Chinese and the languages of Chinese ethnic minorities. The holdings main collections can be broken down as follows: 

  • Japanese and Korean: 1,100 volumes
  • Austroasiatic languages (essentially Vietnamese): 220 volumes
  • Tai-Kadai languages (primarily Chinese languages): 250 volumes,
  • Tibetan and Burmese languages: 650 volumes
  • Austronesian languages (particularly Taiwanese languages): 220 volumes
  • Altaic languages: 450 volumes
  • General works on linguistics: 1,000 volumes

The library also holds an extensive collection of offprints and papers presented at symposiums and conferences (1,300).

Holdings are divided physically between the Maison de l'Asie Library and CRLAO facilities (105 boulevard Raspail, 75006 Paris).

Access terms

Maison de l'Asie: On-site consultation on presentation of a valid photo ID. No documents may be requested between Noon and 2:00 pm and after 5:00 pm.

CRLAO: On-site consultation possible Monday – Friday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. It is recommended to contact the librarians before visiting the library.
