The EHESS Center for Modern Chinese Studies Library is the largest French library in its field: the history, politics, economics and sociology of 20th century China. The collection is complementary to those of other French institutions. It covers a period and fields not addressed by other major institutions such as the Bibliothèque Nationale and the Institute for Advanced Chinese Studies (collections focused on Imperial China), BULAC - Bibliothèque universitaire des langues et civilisations (centered on literature ), or the EFEO-French School of Asian Studies (whose collections focus on Asian religions). The collection covers Chinese history, politics, economics and sociology from the mid-nineteenth century forward,. It comprises some 50,000 volumes, 220 periodical titles in Western languages and 1,400 journal titles in Chinese. Over the past few years, the library has developed its collection of monographs and statistical yearbooks. The library is particularly proud of its collection of major Chinese daily newspapers (on loan to BULAC) and its microfilm collection of pre-1949 periodicals. The library also offers access to extensive digital resources in Chinese dialects and Western languages: periodical databases, bibliographies, etc.
