HOW TO SEARCH FOR A PhD THESIS SUBMITTED AND DEFENDED AT PSL

6 PSL founding member institutions are currently accredited by the French government to confer PhD's: ENS, Mines-ParisTech, Université Paris-Dauphine, EPHE, the Observatoire de Paris-Meudon, and EHESS. For the past few years, the first three institutions have required candidates to submit a digitized version of their thesis.

Search for a thesis directly in the search bar, permanently displayed at the top of all PSL-Explore website pages. You can search by key-word, author, thesis supervisor or by title.

Initially, the search engine displays a list of results which you must filter by indicating "Type of resource":  "Thesis".

By using the "Only display" filter, you can limit your search to theses accessible on-line. You can also use the "Institution" filter to display all the theses from a specific PSL member institution. For each result, a "Where to find the document" tab indicates where to find the thesis and its reference code.

Other Thesis Reference websites include:

  • Theses.fr – a site that references all doctoral theses prepared over the past 10 years in French universities and institutions of higher learning and all theses submitted and defended since 1985, whatever the discipline.
  • SUDOC – a site that references all theses defended in France since 1972.

Other PSL member institutions such as ESPCI, Chimie-ParisTech, Institut Curie, ENSBA, ENSAD, CNSAD, CNSMDP, and La Fémis, host PhD candidates who are also enrolled at ENS or another university.
